How to install and configure the TinyMCE Advanced editor plugin

This article describes how to install and configure the TinyMCE Advanced editor plugin for WordPress. This plugin lets you add powerful WYSIWYG editing capabilities to the WordPress text editor. You can also fully customize the WordPress editor's layout.

TinyMCE Advanced is a WordPress plugin. You must install WordPress on your site before you can install TinyMCE Advanced.

 

Installing TinyMCE Advanced

To install the TinyMCE Advanced plugin, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress site as the administrator.
  2. In the left-hand pane, click Plugins.
  3. Click Add New.
  4. In the Search text box, type tinymce, and then click Search Plugins.
  5. In the Name column, locate TinyMCE Advanced, and then click Install Now.
  6. After WordPress finishes installing the plugin, click Activate Plugin.


Configuring TinyMCE Advanced

After you install the TinyMCE Advanced plugin, you can configure it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress site as the administrator.
  2. In the left-hand pane, click Settings, and then click TinyMCE Advanced.
  3. Under Editor Settings, drag and drop the button icons to add and remove them from the editing toolbar. You can also rearrange their order on the toolbar however you want.
  4. To enable the editor menu, select the Enable the editor menu check box.

    • The editor menu allows you to access features that you do not use frequently. For example, there may be an editing feature that you only use occasionally. Instead of placing the button on the toolbar, you can enable the editor menu instead.

  5. When you are done reviewing and configuring the remaining options, click Save Changes.
  6. In the left-hand pane, click Posts, and then click Add New. The WordPress editor appears with the options you selected.
